I remember (and have worn) the old-fashioned wool thermal underwear "union suits" as being effective against the cold, but somewhat uncomfortable and "itchy". The Merino Wool long underwear I purchased from Hank's are totally different, in that they are quite comfortable to wear; more so even than the polypropylene thermal underwear I have worn. They fit well, dry quickly and the zip-down front is a good option to have. I'll be taking these to Antarctica with me this year and all indications are that they are the best choice for the trip. |

| love this base layer! it's very comfortable and washes well. only wish that it came in a women's XS..... the men's XS was a tad large, but it was still wonderful. my husband also loved his. | ||||

And more comfortable than smartwool Amazingly soft and supple. Started off buying one for myself and am now buying them for others. ALWAYS well received. Does not shrink like the Icebreaker shirts do (even them only in cold) |

| This piece of clothing is indispensable, I jokingly call it "the uniform" because I wear it every day and even to bed. It washes well and never shrinks. I have given them to family members for Christmas. Yes, I am wearing mine right now. | ||||

| This top is soft and does a great job regulating your body temp. I've worn it from 30s-60s fishing so far. Seemed very slightly itchy but that went away after first wash. I have a tendancy to push my sleeves up and they begin to stretch/sag by the end of the day washing snaps them back into place. Overall, I really like this piece at about 40% cheaper than my very similar smartwool. Wish Hanks carried more colors. | ||||
