FAQ
What activities are your goatskin gloves suitable for?

Our Uplander Gloves are made from 100% genuine goatskin, lightweight leather that is thin but dense, making for a touch glove that gives you superior "sense of touch." We feel they are suitable for shooting, upland hunting, or any activity where you want the protection of a tough leather glove, without the thickness or loss of sensitivity of a heavier work glove.

What is the advantage of the "Gunn" pattern?
The "Gunn" pattern refers to the pattern that is used to stitch the gloves together. The finger seams are set back to reduce wear, and offer a smooth surface where the fingers grip. This results in a fit that is well suited for gripping guns, tools, or the steering wheel.

What do you mean when you say goatskin is fine grain, or closed cell?
Fine grain means that pores in goatskin are smaller and closer together, which gives goatskin great durability, even though it is relatively thin. Goatskin is closed cell, meaning it is dense and tight, turning away moisture and oils naturally.

What do you mean when you say "100% Merino virgin wool?"
100% virgin wool is "virgin" because it comes straight from the sheep, not trimmings or leftovers recycled from the processing of other wool fabrics.
This allows us to use the longest fibers to weave our fabrics, which is important because longer fibers are inherently stronger than shorter fibers. This makes it unnecessary for us to blend synthetic fibers such as nylon or polyester into our wool to make it stronger.

Thus, we believe our 100% virgin wool is more resilient and long lasting than wool blends, and you get the full benefit of the wool fibers working for you.

Merino wool is known in the trade for its extra-long, extra-fine fibers that spin into a very strong, yet very soft yarn that many people can wear against their skin.

What is the importance of worsted yarns?
Worsted wool yarns are twisted as they are spun, to create a tighter, more durable and long-lasting material. Many people find worsted wool to be more comfortable against their skin, because worsted fabrics have a smooth surface.

Is your Merino wool water repellent?
Wool is naturally water repellent, and more importantly, it will retain heat even when wet. 100% virgin wool will absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without becoming damp or clammy. On top of that, our socks, gloves, and long johns have a worsted finish, which means that the surface has even greater capacity to turn away moisture.

How noisy is wool in the woods?
Wool is very quiet: It doesn`t make noise as you walk through brush or ground cover, which is greatly valued by hunters in particular.
