• The handgrip on the top is for lifting the bag when the retractable handle is not in use, when riding an escalator, for example. The handgrip on the side is for maneuvering the bag in and out of overhead compartments.

• We chose ball-bearing roller-blade wheels because they are very durable, and the ball bearings make a smoother roll, with less friction on the internal parts, for longer wear.

• Some customers may notice that the bag leans backwards slightly when stood upright. This compensates for an over-packed bag, which would fall forward if it stood straight up at 90 degrees.

Care
How do I clean Rugged Twill luggage
Wipe or brush away surface soil or buildup with a damp cloth or scrub brush. If necessary, use cold water to loosen up any caked mud or dirt.
We advise against spot cleaning with soap and water, as it may result in a loss of water repellency or color in that spot. If it is absolutely necessary to spot clean Rugged Twill, you may need to re-wax that spot to restore the water repellency after it dries.
DO NOT professionally dry clean Rugged Twill. Dry cleaning solutions destroy the Oil Finish, effectively turning Oil Finish fabrics into Dry Finish fabrics. If Rugged Twill is dry cleaned, it will need to be re-waxed to restore its water repellency.
DO NOT machine wash Rugged Twill. Machine washing breaks down the Oil Finish, and sometimes causes the fabric to shrink. Most importantly, machine washing will not soften Rugged Twill. In fact, it may make the fabric stiffer than before.

Do I need to re-wax my Rugged Twill luggage?
You shouldn't need to re-wax your Rugged Twill luggage right away. It is ready to use. However, over time, and with regular use, the Oil Finish water repellency may weaken, especially in areas of high wear or repeated flexing. One can of our Style 1-A Original Oil Finish Wax is enough to touch up isolated areas of high wear or flexing, but re-waxing an entire piece of luggage usually requires several cans of wax. See Style 1 and 1-A for detailed instructions.
Genuine Bridle Leather: Clean with saddle soap. Some customers apply our Style 2-A Boot Oil Finish to keep leather moisturized. See care instructions for Genuine Bridle Leather.

How do I clean and care for Genuine Bridle Leather?
Use saddle soap to clean, soften, and preserve bridle leather. Saddle soap is designed specifically to care for bridle leather, and is usually available where shoe care products are sold. Follow the instructions on the container.
DO NOT professionally dry clean or machine wash. The dyes can bleed, or the leather can dry out, which can cause cracking or splitting.

How do I clean the wheels on my wheeled luggage?
It's normal for high-density plastic surfaces to scuff or dent, but it should not crack or break. To clean, wipe down with mild soap and water as needed. No lubrication is necessary for the wheels. Common Uses Travel FAQ What makes your wheeled luggage different from other brands?

Why do you put black masking tape over the inside bottom corners, over the wheel housings?
We put black masking tape over the inside bottom corners, covering the wheel housings, to hide the unfinished edges of the fabric around the wheels, and to prevent the Rugged Twill fabric from shifting around the wheel cutouts.
As a secondary benefit, the tape prevents moisture from getting through onto the contents of the duffle. The wheel housings themselves are waterproof, but water could possibly work its way around the outside edge of the wheel housings, and into the bag. The inside zippered pockets are positioned on each end to hide the black tape and other exposed parts.

Why did you use Velcro strips to secure the bottom layer of Twill, inside the duffle?
We need access underneath the bottom layer as we put the bag together, so we use Velcro strips to secure one side of that bottom layer when we finish. Also, the Velcro closure makes it convenient to get into the "guts" of the bag if we need to do any repairs in the future. It was not intended for the customer to use the Velcro strips to get underneath the bottom panel.
