Effect of Gas Prices on Retail Supplies
Effect of Gas Prices on Retail Supplies

Well it’s 91 degrees outside and we are unpacking winter Carhartt items! The seasons just change so fast and as we are unpacking all this stuff I mentioned that Labor Day is only about 86 days away! Time just flys.
So enjoy these warm summer days as they won’t be here for long. Jump in the pools, fire up the grills, and put on the suntan lotion. Fall will be here before you know it.

Mid year price increases used to be fairly rare among our suppliers. Seems like this year a large majority are sending us mid year price increases. They are all stating the same reasons for the increases: rising transportation cost (fuel), and Global Currency conditions. Imported rubber footwear saw an 8% increase at wholesale. That’s quit an increase for just a 6 month period. We’ll just hang in there and see what happens

The rising cost of Gasoline and Diesel seems to be affecting the price of almost everything. Not only is the cost of filling up your vehicle increasing but also the cost of food and clothing.
Adding to the cost increases on Footwear and Clothing are the following two factors:
Also the price on store supplies that you normally wouldn’t think about have risen drastically. Plastic bags for example that cost $35.20 per thousand in November of 2007 and are now at $98.50 per thousand. To counteract this we searched around and found bags slightly smaller than the ones were using at a cost of $36.49 per thousand.
Hanks is aggressively searching out value for our customers and everyday we continue to search for products that we think are of exceptional value. We look at price, quality, and value for the dollar all combined in our purchasing decisions.
Gas is going to go up more. I am convinced of that. Read this article here that states the good that will come from $8 a gallon gas (not that I agree totally just an interesting take). We’ll do our best here at Hanks to offer products that give you the most for your dollar.
Thanks for listening and conserve that gasoline!

One of our best selling items are these handy Suspender buttons that install without sewing or special tools.
It’s amazing how many of these we sell. They work great on jeans and heavier fabric pants. Just push the back pin through the fabric and then press the button on the pin. Once they are on they don’t come off. Priced at just $1.99 a set. A set will do one pair of pants. We don’t recommend them for dress pants but for work pants and jeans they can’t be beat. Team them up with some of our rugged button suspenders and your pants will never let you down!
